The Rennes 1 Foundation at the Roullier Endowment Fund
Wednesday, June 21, 2023, from 13:30 to 15:30, the Chair «Biodiversity and Climate Change», of which the Roullier Endowment Fund is a partner, organized an Innovation Workshop on the theme «Wetlands: assets to fight the effects of climate change».
During the afternoon, various speakers discussed ways to better understand the functioning of wetlands and their roles in combating the effects of climate change. This workshop was led by Joan Van Baaren, Chair holder and Director of the Ecobio laboratory.
workshop agenda
The workshop focused on two areas:
▶ The role of micro-biodiversity in wetland soils
Speakers: Cécile Monard, Gabrielle Thiébaut, Rémi Trémouille, Ecobio laboratory (Université de Rennes, CNRS)
▶ Round table: wetlands are our concern!
- Véronique Lepannetier-Ruffault, responsible for the Brittany development program of the Giboire group: understanding the soil, an indispensable prerequisite for wetland development projects
- Sylvain Pluchon, Director of Plant Nutrition R&D, Groupe Roullier: agricultural production in wetlands, typologies, constraints and agronomic solutions
- Stéphanie Moulé Nguyen, Veolia’s Environment, Biodiversity and Energy Manager: Veolia’s biodiversity approach: illustration with the monitoring of the Grand Landes site and its 5.5 ha of aquatic habitats
The FDR partner of the Biodiversity and Climate Change Chair
The Biodiversity and Climate Change Chair of the Rennes 1 Foundation aims to identify and understand the role of biodiversity in the resilience and adaptation to climate change of human activities.
His work focuses on three areas:
- Decipher and analyze the risks and threats to biodiversity related to current climate change.
- Experiment with resilience solutions and/or scenarios including biodiversity to limit the impact of climate change on our ecosystems.
- Recommend sound and efficient management policies.
The Biodiversity and Climate Change Chair at the University of Rennes is supported by five partner companies: The Roullier Endowment Fund, Veolia, Samsic, OKWind and Giboire.
Aware that climate change is already changing production conditions for the agricultural sector, the Roullier Endowment Fund has chosen to engage with the Biodiversity and Climate Change Chair to support research on the analysis of changes affecting biodiversity, from soil to landscapes.
